Kel Brook Is Making Hearn Look Stupid

Now from the start I will admit I am a massive critic of Eddie Hearn , his lies he spoon feeds us, the crazy statements and most of all some poor shows makes him an easy target ,but now I have to admit Eddie has done a great job getting Kel Brook “king of the manditory’s” a fantastic unification fight against Jessie Vargas only for Brook to make him look a cunt and start to drag his heels on his biggest fight in years.

Kel Brooks is a very talented boxer who’s on the verge of Seeing the best years of his career disappear and his lasting legacy will be one good victory which he edged over Shaun Porter wining his IBF world title .That was way back in 2014 since then Brook has done nothing worth talking about.

I done a blog a few months back asking if Hearn could get Brook the big name fights he deserves, and that we where missing a great British boxer in his prime who waisting away on bum manditory’s, a view shared by most boxing fans when it comes to Brook but Hearn stepped up. Eddie announced to the world on Twitter that Jessie Vargas will come to the UK and take on Brook in Sheffield in a PPV unification fight. Now let’s not forget for Vargas to come to the UK and fight,a place with probably some of the worst judging decisions for foreign boxers would have meant Hearn would have to pay some big money to get Vargas on the plane .

Now it was announced weeks ago Vargas had signed his half of the deal, Eddie Hearn announced this on Twitter and even had dates lined up and me and the rest of the boxing world thought this was a done deal ,but this week it has came to light that Kel Brook has stalled on putting pen to paper whilst calling out Vargas on Twitter ….the guy who’s already signed up to fight . This for me is a slap on the face for any Brook fans who have been patient on waiting thrugh injury and shit manditory’s aswell as Eddie Hearn who’s been pushing to make Brook a PPV fighter. This surly is Kels time to take his first step toward the biggest names in the division maybe even get that Khan fight he wants . This match up should see Brook win,but he would have to raise his game now I find my self questioning if he has the desire to fulfil his potential or another modern day poser looking to milk fans before fucking off .

Eubanks,The Most Annoying Guys In Boxing

Why does Chris Eubank jnr make it so hard to like him ? Just when I started getting used to his antics, over confidence and his daddy issues that see him trying to act like his father at every opportunity he has now went into overdrive to get on my tits.

Recently we have had Chris snr call out one of the best and complete boxers in the world GGG saying in his funny voice :

“I don’t see anything like Chris’s speed or power “

This will be GGG with a 92% KO ratio , the same GGG that has Canelo Alverez running scared, vacating his WBC world title to avoid fighting him for it compare that to Chris Eubank jnr,a guy who was schooled by Billy Joe Saunders and was also rocked a couple of times in his fight with Spike O’Sullivan. As I said at the start Iam a Eubank fan and usally I like boxers with arrogance but Jnr like his father seems to push buttons and can wynd me up at times, but unlike his dad he has not backed it up as of yet, arrogance is a luxury you have to earn and Eubank Jnr is nowhere near being able to pull off his egotistical shit. In the same week as calling out GGG the Eubanks announced there plans to have Jnr fight in the Olympics ,fuck me the beginning of the week he’s beating GGG the end of the week he’s intending to go fight ameteurs, to me they are embarrassing to listen to, most of the time when they are on TV interviews I watch through my fingers as I cringe at every unfounded claim made .

Don’t get me wrong I think a lot of it is a act to get his name out there, there is no such thing as bad press in boxing, his names out there even if it’s just to laugh at these outrageous comments. The thing that gets to me is Chris Snr,who’s had his time in the spotlight pushing in on his sons time, to begin with I thought he was shielding his son form the pressures of the media but now I think he’s riding on Jnrs wave and making him a bit of laughing stock at times. I think what people have to remember is that Chris Eubank Snr ducked a lot fight, yes we had Benn etc but there where big swerves inbetween so to think he will put Jnr in the ring with GGG as he is the now is beyond ludicrous .

Will Jnr ever be humble, no I think the best we can hope for is he moves on from being the pricks prick , that title should stay with his dad .

Big Fight Prevew + Prediction : Lomachenko vs Martinez

We where spoiled last week with the Vargas vs Salido fight and this week we are in for another treat with the mouthwatering fight between Lomachenko vs Martinez which has the potential to be a peach of a fight

Let’s start with Vasyl Lomachenko : This guy is one of the most exciting talents in boxing and one of my favourites to watch. Lomachenko looks every bit the perfect boxer for fight fans, covers up very well, quick on his feet, can get in land 4 big shots before you know he’s there, even if you tie him down he has perfect timing and efficient accuracy on his counters, infact you won’t see busier boxer ,he has the work rate only seen in the ameteur level. Lomachenko is pretty widely regarded as the greatest ever ameature and with this list of honours who could argue .

But unlike other top class Olympians when turning pro Lomachenko wanted the big fights right from the start in only his 2nd pro fight he took on Orlando Salido for the vacant WBO Featherweight title but as Salido missed the weight by miles and gave Lomachenko his first loss,in a  fight in which turned out to be one of the best fights seen in years .This was no major stain, although  Salido did do a brilliant job on Lomachenko fighting ugly, hitting low raising questions about his ability to deal with this kind of fight .But Salido did look to be a whole weight division if not more above him and it showed when big shots from Lomachenko where just brushed off. Since then Lomachenko has demolished everything put infront of him trying to put to bed any of the questions raised in that Salido bout where obviously he he learned from that lesson .He got his hands on the WBO Featherweight Title against Garry Russell Jnr , a fight in which he schooled a 24-0-0 boxer in his 3rd pro fight. This fight was a masterpiece switching body to head he just wore Russell down to a shell of a man who deserved credit for taking it to the card if nothing else .

Now a look at Roman Martinez: Martinez is a great boxer to watch, loves to stay at length before he looks to land big straight shots which he throws in threes and fours. In the first leg of his double header against Salido he totally outclassed Salido, the same Salido who gave Lomachenko all sorts of problems. He has Salido on the canvas in rounds 3 and 5 with virtually the same shot, a big overhand right, down the middle the same  shot that also took Ricky Burns to the canvas . Martinez doesn’t just look for this big shot, he’s great at switching body to head, his combos are great to watch when they come off . The Puerto Rican also move really well laterally infact looks a lot better when giving away the middle of ring. In his fight against the  King of Scots Ricky Burns, ricky gave him all sort of trouble tho, a great performance from Burns seen him bully Martinez and make him look clumsy at times as Burns went on to take his belt from him. Also in the second fight against Salido,Martinez was very lucky to get away with a draw ,for me Salido dragged him into a dog fight and for me Salido outclassed him in a close fight .

My prediction: Well the old cliche “styles make fights” and these two have styles which should set up a cracker. There’s no doubt Martinez is the more powerful of the both, that big straight right is beautiful to watch, one of the best shots around but I think he will struggle to hit Lomachenko, the Ukrainian doesn’t stand infront of you he comes from unorthodox angles hiring you with quick combos. I think if  Martinez is to win he will have to fight ugly,on the inside and try and drag Lomachenko into a dogfight, try and tangle feet ,anything  to take Lomachenko off his stride . I think Lomachenko will win on points,I just think he will have to much in the tank, look the better fighter and land more big shots as the fight goes on obviously Martinez has that big right hand in his locker which could end it at anytime,so very hard to call.

Vargas vs Salido ,what boxing is all about, take note UK

Well ladies and gentlemen just when you thought boxing was imploding and about to self destruct the sport was given a massive boost and a reminder of why we love it on Saturday….no not that bag of shit show in Liverpool where Liam Smith fought a bum and a full undercard of shit ,I’m talking about the Vargas vs Salido fight in LA . This had all the makings of a classic, two hard hitting Mexicans with balls of steel and this didn’t disappoint .But this blog altho heaping praise on this spectacle is gonna point out that this fight would never have happend in the UK .

Here in Britain we will be lucky to get a couple of good fights in a year in between them we have Anthony Joshua knocking out bums and Eddie Hearne telling casuals these guys are class boxers elevating AJ who’s beat no1 to near legendary status, we will also have Kel Brook fighting shite and tell ya it’s not his fault Even that weekend there we had Liam “Beefy” Smith fight a guy I could probably batter in a fight for the world title . Do you see the trend here ? British boxers and there promoters don’t want to give you a classic no that would mean risk a belt maybe even get a loss on there record ,shock horror if that ever happens  , here in the UK we are served up shit and told its caviar. The Vargas vs Salido wasn’t even picked up by any British broadcaster that weekend leaving real fight fans ,hungry to see a  real fight trolling the Internet looking for dodgy streams. To be honest I know exactly why the fight wasn’t shown, how could sky or boxnation ask you to foot the bill for boxing if you actually had a real event to compare it to, how could they try and sell Groves vs Murray on PPV undercard after seeing Golden Boy/HBO undercard on Saturday which was class.

This full event has brought me back from the brink of turning casual and only watching main events and boxers I like. For me being a boxing fan isn’t about seeing a guy out his depth getting knocked out or domestic level fighters being thrown into world title fights to get beat up this seems to be what matchroom has brought to the sport  . For me boxing is about well matched boxers, two guys testing themselves against each other, learning weaknesses as the fight goes on, I love looking out for the next big thing or ones to look out for in a couple years . We boxing fans don’t care that Crolla fights for matchroom and Flannigan fights for Frank Warren, we want to see Crolla vs Flannigan because it will be a cracker to guys from Manchester who went to the same school, the guys incharge of British boxing could not give a fuck of this fight never happens . Another could be Burns vs Crolla but that’s doubtful because both are matchroom fighters. This is killing our game and robbing our boxers of the chance to become a greats even robbing us of our own classic tussel like we seen the other night ,Vargas vs Salido

Will we ever get back to a time where boxers and there teams want to know how good they are rather than build a fake reputation Ontop of a boxrec full of bums ? …..my honest thoughts is no ,well not for a long time anyway , not aslong as 17000 wankers will show up to watch David Haye beat up idiots and old asthmatic men, not aslong as Anthony Joshua will defend his title against nobodies and sell out in no time and be on PPV to do it , not  aslong as Hearns and Warrens will fart beside you and say it’s aftershave ,the only people who can save our game is us ourselves, the fights are there let’s make them, you never know we might be as good as we think we are. Until this does change I am starting form the opinion that every world title won by a British boxer is bad for him and the sport because greedy promoter will do anything to not risk it .

The Day,The Amateurs Died

As a boxing fan who has been to more amateur boxing events than the glitzy events at 10,000 arenas Iam writing this totally disgusted and angry about the decision by the AIBA to let Pro boxers fight in the Olympics. For me this is nothing but a money spinner, trying to milk more out of sponsers in the process all but killing amateur games pinochle event ,an event that gets up and coming and good amateur boxers world exposure maybe even the sponsorship and guidance to turn pro.

The world of boxing has erupted in anger at the descsion, former world champion Carl Frampton saying :

amateur and pro boxing are “two different sports”. “It’s like a badminton player playing tennis.”

Also getting stuck into this shocking descsion was Ricky Hatton who tweeted

Altho there are those like Vlad Klitschko who is 40 ,has indicated he would like to box at the Olympics, altho the chances are he will miss qualifiers in Venuzela next month where there are 26 places up for grabs for the Olympics due to his fight with Tyson Fury. But how can it be alright for Ex-undisputed heavyweight champion of the word to go fight amateurs, a shocking descsion by the AIBA who’s stance is

“they are allowed to come to the Olympics but we are unsure how many would actually want to come “

Now would be a good time to see our World Governing bodies flex there muscles for the sake of the integrity of pro boxing aswell as amateur boxing and threaten to ban anyone who goes the Olympics. This is truly damaging to the sport as a whole, who wants to see seasoned pros take on an up and coming youngsters who still trying to prove themselves at amateur level .

Big Fights Reaction Burns/Bellew

Well well well we had two Brits fighting for world titles and my God did they deliver to take us to just the 13 World Champions .

Burns vs Di Rocco :

I was lucky enough to take this in live at the Hydro and was a good night with a couple of decent fight on the undercard but the main event went as predicted in last weeks blog , Di Rocco was well out of his depth from the start. Ricky Burns right from the off was to quick of the mark for Di Rocco, anytime the Italian tried to open up ,Burns had already landed a solid jab before putting space back between them making Di Rocco miss badly,it seemed Burns didn’t really know what to expect and with Di Rocco’s boxrec suggesting he can hit hard, Burns  used the opening rounds to get this guys measure  . As the rounds came and past Di Rocco just couldn’t close Burns down and was looking further and further out his depth. I had predicted a round 7 stoppage for Burns it turned out I was one  off the mark as it took until round 8 before Burns let the big body shots go on a tired beat Di Rocco which took him down and not come back up which seen Ricky Burns become Scotland’s first ever three weight World Champion. A fantastic occasion in Glasgow and hopefully see bigger oponenets on the horizon.

 Bellew vs Makabu :

Well this was a cracking matchup for the WBC cruiserweight world title ,and I will admit right from the start I thought Makabu would have had the edge but my god did Big Tony Bellew rise to the occasion at Goodison Park. After both fighter where in the ring Bellew’s size advantage was obvious,he looked massive and right from the start got using his jab and looked really strong until just before the bell, Makabu landed a nice shot which took an off balance Bellew to the floor . Bellew’s corner took the interval to calm him down and tell him to stick to his gameplan which Bellew done in round two. When the two where exchanging blows up close in the third it looked dangerous for Bellew until he landed a lovely left which rocked Makabu and that invited Bellew to chase him down and pile on the pressure ,Bellew knew this was the end he just had to find the right shot and he did, with Makabu on the ropes trying to paw Bellew away he is smashed with a cracking left which had him out on his feet . The ref Victor Laughlan stopped the fight right here but Makabu was never getting up infact he was down for the next couple of minutes. Bellew has just put himself in the top three cruiserweight sin the world and deserves every bit of praise he’s been getting ….fantastic big man Dino @DjayBoxingBlog

Burns vs Di Rocco fight preview

On Saturday the 28th May we have a chance of seeing history being made as Rick Burns (39-5-1 13loskos)! attempts to become a 3 weight world champion when he takes on Italian Michele Di Rocco (40-1-1kos18)in Glasgow for vacant WBA title stripped from Adrien Broner .

Let’s do So Rocco first:
I’m going to tell you right here this is going to be short and sweet because I’ve been doing my research on Di Rocco and cannot see how he’s getting a World Title shot. He came won bronze as at the European Boxing Championship back in 2002 as an amateur and also qualified for the Athens Olympics . Now if you look at this guy’s record you could be fooled into thinking the he has something but after sitting watching a couple of these fights on YouTube in what can only be described as little more than church hall bouts I found the guy to look good at the at the level he’s fighting at but this will be a massive step up in class for him up against Burns who’s fought and fought well at world level being a two weight World Champion. Di Rocco also doesn’t like to fight outside Italy having only done so twice before so on top of being out his depth he also has to contest a notorious Glasgow crowd of around 12,000 who will have the Hydro Arena rocking .

Now Ricky Burns:
I feel right now I should admit I am a massive Burns fan. Burns has worked his arse off trying to get himself back to the top of his game after a dip in form due to a broken jaw sustained in his Worls title defence against Beltran, the broken jaw which Burns sustained in the second round saw him hang on the full fight and take it to the cards in which he stole a draw ,now to take it to the judges showed the kind of heart burns has and saw him steal a draw, steal being the key word as Beltran clearly won to any normal person watching the fight. Burns did lose his next two fight to Terence Crawford and Dejan Zlaticanin hardly any disgrace in that ,Crawford being one of the best boxers on the planet, but Burns looked to be really paranoid about his jaw in these fights and looked like that might be the end of a great career .For me this notion of the end of Burn ended when he went to face the very talented Figueroa Jnr in Texas ,the fight I watched Ricky brought his A game and showed he still had the ability and fire in his belly, and for me win the fight comfortably but he fell victim this time to some dodgy score cards which gave Figueroa the win . Since then Burns has had to fight below his level trying to work his way back up the rankings and if he gets the job done against Di Rocco this will bring back the big fights to Glasgow and see Burns second coming .

Dino’s prediction:

I’m trying to look at this as unbiased as I can but can only see a Burns win by stoppage around the middles rounds,il put my neck on the line and say the 7th,I think Ricky will work his body and by the 7th he will have nothing left . Anything I’ve seen of Di Rocco I just think this is to big a step up and if he last to the 7th he deserves some credit.

Drug Cheats, Boxing’s Elephant In Room

Like most boxing fans I look at pro boxers as if they are superhumans, the way in which they can slip, glide, bob, weave shots whilst landing there own the whole time making it look like the easiest job in the world. Even before they step into the ring on fight night they have trained for months,100s of rounds of sparring, hours upon hours on heavybags, running, skipping having seen these guys first hand in training camp it really does blow your mind. Even away from the gym these machines literally starve themselves in the run up to the fight all to make weight and this is where the sport hits murky waters . When the body is being starved to make weight it eats into muscle mass so the longer someone might take to make weight the less power they will have come fight night, but lose the weight to rapid or to much weight and you will become weight drained, weak and no stamina , boxing is a sport where getting your diet right might not win you a fight but it can lose you one.

Enter the cheats , in boxing we have two kind of drug cheats, those who take banned substances to cut weight quick and those who look to increase there power through the use of banned substances .The most commonly used drug to cut weight in the sport is Clenbuterol and Ephidrine both of these drugs are used to treat asthma and there has been cases like Heavyweight boxer Shannon Briggs testing positive for these drugs after using them inadvertently in his asthma medication back in 2010 ,he got a 90 day ban,now I can believe this as Briggs as a Heavyweight boxer who doesn’t need to starve his body to make weight and is known for the amount of medication he takes to help with his asthma, so 90 days seems fair to me for the mistake but far to often this has become the party line for anyone caught cheating ,let me explain how this substances are abused by boxers .Clenbuterol and Ephedrine raise your bodies core temperature  0.5 to 1 degree which results in the body burning off excess energy (calories) so cheats or juicers if you like, can train harder on fuller bodies and still cut the weight comfortably . This puts there opponents at a massive disadvantage, in the build up to the fight the opponent’s bodies have been put through a lot more stress, they have been cutting down on intake whilst still training ,the juicers have been eating more and hydrating more whilst a drug gets them down to weight. Then we have the other more sinister drug  juicers use are anabolic like Dianabol and Stanozolo (there are many others but these are most common) these are more sinister for one reason ,they make the juicer gain muscle mass whilst losing body weight, when you equate that muscle mass will increase a boxers punching power dramatically this is not just a quick fix to gain an edge but an ugly selfish trick that could have serious consequences for the poor guy on the end of these synthetic power punches. For me this is the equivalent of putting a metal plate in your glove, this is easily the worst thing any professional boxer or even a man can do to another man and for me borders on serious assault .
Now you might be asking “how big a problem is doping in boxing ?” Well the heavyweight champion of the world Tyson Fury said :

“I can look at a man and tell you if he’s full of drugs by one glance at his body with his top off. “Boxing has got a big problem with drugs. But it doesn’t bother me because at the end of the day it’s about determination over drugs”

Although Fury might say it doesn’t bother him but I think his opinion might change if he was to lose to a juiced up fighter.

Why are more boxers not caught if it’s such a problem ?
Well these juicers don’t just take these substances and hope for the best these guys are advised by doctors who are light years ahead of the testing and screening process .These doctors understand the biology of the human body, they know how these banned substances can be masked, broken down and made undetectable by other legal medicines if took properly. The most famous case of use of these doctors was American cyclists Lance Armstrong’s secret doc ,Dr Ferrari who helped Armstrong avoid detection for years in a sport where drug tests are frequent and unannounced ,if anyone is thinking this can’t be applied to boxing then they are being very naive.

Now we as fans and boxers living within the rules are being let down miserably by the Governing Bodies the WBC,WBO,WBA and IBF seem to take the view of punishment for getting caught rather than take a hard line for cheating ,you might think that this is a ridiculous statement but just look at the these cases of drug cheats :
Erik Morales tested positive for Clenbuterol but instead of facing a massive ban and financial penalty the WBC just didn’t recognize the result , they didn’t cancel his world title shot ,he failed a drug test and went on to fight Danny Garcia.
Or
The case of Andre Berto who tested positive for norandrosterone (steroid) which increases testosterone which is why it’s banned for boxers. Berto was originally banned but after claiming his his sample  was contaminated he was reinstated and fought for a WBC intern belt, hardly pushing a zero tolerance .
One more example is Lamont Peterson a name which we all know who failed a drug test for the Amir Khan fight . He tested positive for synthetic testosterone which increases pretty much everything a boxer needs ,strength and endurance, how was he punished I hear you ask ,well the IBF let him keep his belt , the absence of backbone from the international governing bodies is shocking to say the least .

My view: We need Olympic style 365 days of the year 24hrs drug testing the kind that caught Vitali Klitchsko taking steroids forcing him to pull out of the Ukraine Olympic team, the kind of system that can show up at your home unannounced at 3am and ask for a sample this would make it much harder but not impossible for juicers as Lance Armstrong proved in cycling, there are ways round these tests but you need a sophisticated doping system to do so and these are hard to find and keep quiet .To go along with this system we need to see a unified approach by the Governing Bodies never mind 6 month bans like Lucas Browne just received  , it should be lifetime bans ,massive financial punishments, punishments that mean if you get caught cheating you face absolute ruin who would risk cheating then as I am writing this another elite boxer Alexander Povetkin has just failed a drug test after meldonium showing up in his sample, now when he failed the drug test the WBC took two days to decide to call off the World title fight between him and Deontay Wilder even now they are saying it may take place next year now …..fuck off .The truth is there is just to much money involved in boxing it doesn’t pay to ban these big names which means in 2016 boxing is probably the most corrupt sport there is with bent judges, doping boxers and governing bodies making it up a  they go .
We ran a poll on Twitter if punishments where to lienent and  asked our followers view

The vote was pretty  overwhelming ,here are a few some of the opinions we where sent

Matchroom = Shit Show …A Boxing Fan Rant

Right from the off I just want to say a massive well done to Anthony Crolla on a brilliant performance at the weekend, I’ve gotta admit I didn’t see him coming thru this one and regardless of the Sky Sports commentating the opening couple of rounds looked like Crolla was just taking to many shots but my god the boy took them and had Barossa blowing out his arse (ass) by round 4 after that it was just a matter when would Crolla finish him, which he did in 7th knocking out a shattered Barossa out ,proving Crolla is a top 3 fighter in the lightweight division.

Now on to the utter mountain of crap undercard. This was like something Del Boy from “only fools and horses” would put on as a boxing show, keeping in mind matchroom where asking £1000 for ringside down to around £40 for a seat in the gods I just keep asking myself “how long are we as fans gonna let Hearn and Sky keep feeding us these shit shows?”.In the weeks leading up to the the event we had Hearn on saying he had no money left for the undercard because he wanted to give Crolla a big pay day estimated to be around £350,000 to £400,000 ,what a crock of shit that is some of these guys on the undercard got a call on Tuesday to fight on the Saturday , every single fan has been treated with utter contempt aswell as Hearns own fighters who must struggle for motivation. I don’t bother anymore, usally I like a good undercard,a lot of the time some of the undercard fights are better than the main attraction but on Saturday I headed to the pub and went home for the main event .Eddie Hearn has brought a bit of glamour back to British boxing but this monopoly he has with Sky is ruining the game, on AJ’s PPV we have to be excited about Anthony Joshua knocking out some 30 year old with 17 fights 17 wins be lucky if it sees 3rd round if that doesn’t get you then what about Groves vs Murray  7 title shots between them lost ,not so long ago this is undercard on a Saturday night in a domestic fight so here’s my big tip for any fight fan, keep your money and join team stream,it won’t make the fights any better but you will save the feeing of being fleeced .
